DDHiFi TC01B / TC01BF HiFi Quality USB-B to USB-C Adapter Converter with CNC Machined Unibody and Gold-Plated Connectors Review – ABC USB

During the recent Chinese New-Year’s celebrations, I secretly purchased the TC01B and TC01BF not only at full price, but I also had to fork out for shipping as I missed the small print. That’s ok, heh!

USB is a mess. There’s USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 with USB-A, USB-B, and USB-C plugs. Your standard USB cable typically comes with a USB-A plug on one end and a USB-B plug on the other. In USB audio, the USB-A connects typically to the computer music source, and the USB-B plugs into the DAC. But if your phone is the source, you need a USB-C or lightning plug instead of USB-A.

Some new DACs may have a USB-C input instead of USB-B. So you need different USB cables for different devices. But what if you invested your last dollars into that fancy $$$$ audiophile USB 2.0 cable with dielectric lithium crystals and cryogenic treatment that suddenly does not fit your new equipment anymore? Throw the new equipment out? Probably not. Buy another cable? Sure, if you are a heart surgeon, international trade lawyer, or a YouTube influencer.

But what will the rest of us do? Well, we buy adapters. What you typically find online is some printer extension cables of the crudest kind – at exorbitant prices. And that’s what I purchased before I found these ddHiFi adapters TC01B and TC01BF.

The TC01BF converts the USB-B end of your standard USB cable into a USB-C plug, and the TC01B adapter turns the USB-C termination into a USB-B plug. And if you need to convert the USB-A termination into a USB-C plug, you can get the TC01C — and the TC01A converts the the USB-C termination into USB-A. Confused? Why not! Your take home is that everything is possible with the right adapter.

The TC01B and TC01BF are made as well as the other ddHiFi adapters with gold-plated connectors and CNC machined unibodies. They use the USB 2.0 standard, like all “audiophile” USB cables.

Apart from good conductivity, such adapters (as well as USB cable terminations) should be as slim as possible in order to fit the busy back panels of our desktop DACs and amps. These ddHiFi plugs are a bit bulky and require some space around the socket they connect to. If you plug them in next to some bulky plug of an “audiophile” power cable, you may have a space problem on hand. Just throw the power cable out, then.

Summing up, the TC01B and TC01BF adapters not only confuse us by their names, but, like all the other ddHiFi plugs and adapters, they also work like a charm. And that’s what counts in the end.

Until next time…keep on listening!
