HIDIZS S8 Pro Robin Review (2nd Opinion) – Same As It Ever Was

There’s theory among Occidentals that the Asian mind is inscrutable and impossible to understand. Pure reprehensible racism, I know, but in fact I cannot fathom why Hidisz keeps churning out virtually identical dongles, as good they may be.

The S8 Pro looks very similar to its stablemate (and my current fave) the S9 Pro Plus and is priced only $10 less; despite sporting a different DAC chip the S8 has a very similar sound signature—forward and frenetic, with a slightly warm tone and a lot of extension at both extremes, although the more powerful S9 Pro Plus has the slightly deeper subbass and a wider, rounder soundstage.

As Durwood (review here) notes, the S8 may pair better with more sensitive phones, but (much like Aerosmith approximated, but didn’t quite equal the Stones), the S9 Pro Plus has just a tad more oomph and for roughly the same $$$ would be my pick.

Non-disclaimer—borrowed from Durwood.
