Takstar Ingping H60 Review – I Ping The Body Electric

Jürgen sent me these Takstar Ingping H60 fresh from his basement, not really meant for review. He bought them eons ago. They are still available.

Diminutive, featherweight plastic microdriver, the Takstar Ingping H60 looks and feels like a dollar-store item but surprises with a big, spacious and airy presentation and good resolution. Balanced signature, without undue emphasis at either frequency extreme; bass isn’t deep but tight and fast; mids are slightly warm, forward and clear and brightish treble shows considerable detail. Very placement and tip-sensitive—deep insertion and good seal are critical to preserving bass quality—I got best results with larger than typical Comply foam tips.

Imaging on these is remarkably good for the price—listening to “Layla” I could place the precise position of each Domino in the studio; they’re coherent and there’s no bleed or congestion between the performers.  Timbre isn’t the most natural—there’s a metallic, slightly harsh quality to the high end, which is mainly present at higher volumes.

The real Achilles heel on these is its reproduction of drums and percussion–drumheads sound unnaturally thin and papery and cymbals  lack zing and sizzle.  It’s enough of a negative to keep me from recommending these unqualifiedly, but for acoustic fare and softer genres the H60 will defy your expectations. They cost, I believe, $23 on Ali. I’ve dropped ten times as much on far worse.
