TRN T300 Review (2) – The Big M…
The TRN T300 present a warm tonality and an L-shaped signature with a prominent low end, forward mids and a rounded-off high end. Soundstage is fairly wide, but limited in height; instruments are well-separated. Bass is deep and voluminous but slightly boomy and overbearing; like a poorly-tuned subwoofer it tends to detract from and lend an incoherence to the rest of the presentation. Vocals sound full-bodied and forward, with good clarity, while treble is grain-free but missing sparkle and micro-detail—high guitar strings, cymbals and percussion sound somewhat muffled. Tonality is fairly pleasant—there’s no harshness or stridency—but lacks aliveness and is “dark” overall—there’s an excessive warmth and underemphasis on the higher frequencies, which is unusual for a hybrid setup.
We struggle with accepting complimentary review samples—unless your’re a real prick, it’s tough to say bad things about something you got for free, especially when the donors (in this case hifigo) are nice, sincere folks. Ergo, I feel somewhat bad about panning TRN’s latest offering. The T300 sound pretty good but you can easily find better for cheaper and, ultimately, these disappoint.
